English Legal Writing

COURSE OUTLINE

Lawyers are finding that being able to produce legal texts in English is of increasing importance. This is not just because of the growing importance of English-speaking countries in national economies, but also due to the key role of English in situations where neither party in a legal relationship understands the other’s native language. This course will provide participants with practical and case-related advice on how to produce contracts, business proposals, legal opinions and analyses in English. This will cover not only the terminological and linguistic aspects of writing such documentation but also the differences between Hungarian and foreign business culture and legal sytems that need to be borne in mind. The focus of this coure will be on business contracts between companies, though other aspects of commercial and civil law will be covered too.

COMPETENCES

Students’ linguistic and drafting skills in English will be improved.
